Charlotte, North Carolina was the site of America’s first gold rush after the 1799 discovery of a 17 pound gold “nugget” on a local farm, later to become the Reed Gold Mine. By 1835 the United States government opened the first U.S. Mint, “in one branch to be established at the town of Charlotte, in Mecklenburg County, in the state of North Carolina, for the coinage of gold only.” The stately elegance of our Mint Street Collection is a tribute to Charlotte’s lustrous past.
